A versatile actress who appeared on the Broadway stage before entering films, she was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her roles in An Unmarried Woman (1978) and Starting Over (1979). Her other film credits include Portnoy's Complaint (1972), Silver Streak (1976), and I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can (1982). She appeared in made-for-TV My Little Assassin, (1999). Clayburgh is penciled in to play Pat Nixon in the 2006-announced movie Dirty Tricks. She has been married since 1979 to playwright David Rabe.
