Emmy Award-winning television, film and stage actress best known for her television roles as witty, intelligent women. Her television credits include The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–66) and The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–77). She and Valerie Harper reprised their sitcom roles in the TV movie Mary and Rhoda (2000). Her films include Ordinary People (1980) and Flirting With Disaster (1996). Most of her recent work has been in television movies, such as The Gin Game (2003), which reunited her with her former costar, Dick Van Dyke.
