Age: 83British lawyer who created human-rights organization Amnesty International in 1961 to assist “prisoners of conscience.” He was moved to act after reading that two Portuguese students were sentenced to seven years in prison for drinking a toast to freedom. Amnesty International won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977.
