Pulitzer prize-winning author, known for his sweeping historical sagas. A prolific writer and tireless researcher, Michener wrote close to 40 novels, many of them bestsellers and at least 1,000 pages long. Despite his enormous commercial success, he remained a humble man, though a generous philanthropist. His works include Tales of the South Pacific, which was adapted for Broadway and film as South Pacific, Hawaii and The Source.
