Chechen warlord, was killed in July in an explosion that Russian officials said was conducted by security forces. Basayev was responsible for the horrific Beslan terrorist attack that killed 331 people, many of them children, in 2004. He also orchestrated the seizure of a hospital in southern Russia in 1995 and a Moscow theater in 2002.
