Edward Danner ZIEGLER, Congress, PA (1844-1931)
ZIEGLER Edward Danner , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Bedford, Bedford County, Pa., March 3, 1844; attended the common schools, and was graduated from Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg in 1865; engaged in teaching in the York County Academy; studied law; was admitted to the bar on November 4, 1868, and commenced practice in York, Pa.; commissioner's clerk in 1871 and 1872; counsel to the board of commissioners; district attorney of York County 1881-1883; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1884; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1899-March 3, 1901); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1900; resumed the practice of law; appointed by the judge of the court of common pleas of York County; auditor of the offices of prothonotary, register of wills, clerk of the court, treasurer, and recorder of York County and served from 1923 to 1925; resumed the practice of law in York, Pa., until his death there on December 21, 1931; interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
